Meet the clay
Wedge it, then pinch a small pot. Make two or three. The second is always better than the first.

Coils, and how to join them
Roll ropes of clay and build up a small cup. Score, slip and smooth the joins on both sides.

Slabs: a flat piece, cut and folded
Roll the clay out even, cut it, and make a shallow dish or a small box.

Finishing your pieces
Leather hard is the moment to smooth, carve and sign. Then the long, slow wait to dry.
